The route to a commercial licence
Six stages, and the order matters as much as the content. Doing them in the wrong sequence is the most expensive mistake a candidate makes.
DGCA computer number
Handled by DGCA
Your identity with the regulator. Nothing else in the process can be registered without it, so it goes first.

Handled by an authorised examiner
Do this early. A Class 2 is enough to start flying, but a commercial licence needs the Class 1, and it is far better to find out about a problem now than after you have paid for training.

Questions
What candidates ask before they join a batch.
How many papers do I have to clear for a CPL?
Four written papers are common to every candidate: Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Air Regulations and Technical General. Technical Specific is tied to the aircraft type you are endorsed on, and RTR(A) is examined separately and must be held before the licence is issued.
What is the pass mark for the DGCA exams?
70% in every paper, cleared independently. There is no overall aggregate and no grace or scaling marks. There is also no negative marking, so leaving a question blank gains you nothing over attempting it.
How long does a cleared paper stay valid?
Five years toward a CPL. That is what makes the order you attempt them in worth planning.
When does the next batch start?
A new batch begins on the 1st of every month, so you are never more than a few weeks from the next start and you do not have to wait for a cohort to fill.
Do I need a computer number before joining?
No. You can begin ground classes while your DGCA computer number is being processed, but you cannot sit an examination without it, so start the application early.
