Can you talk on the radio correctly, and do you understand the equipment you are talking on.
What the syllabus covers
- Part I: practical transmission technique and standard phraseology
- Part II: oral examination on regulations and radio principles
- Radio propagation and the frequency bands used in aviation
- Aerodrome, approach and area control communication procedures
- Distress, urgency and emergency communications
- Radio failure procedures
- Q-codes and the phonetic alphabet
- Licensing requirements and the privileges of the certificate
Where candidates lose marks
- It is examined separately from the DGCA theory papers, and it must be held before the licence is issued, so it is easy to leave too late.
- Phraseology is a performance, not a recall test. Practising out loud is the only preparation that works.
